Digital Language Resources in theory and in practice
The course looks at the role that digital language resources play in the broadly understood Humanities: how they are defined and categorized, how they can be created, what practical purposes they can serve.
Among the theoretical issues that the course touches upon are the concepts of: the data model and its serialization, levels of annotation, specialized representation of information vs. theory-neutrality, standardization. On the practical side, we will be looking at ways to exploit language resources, with a special focus on how students of linguistics and translation studies can benefit from the existing language resources, or create/extend such resources, if needed. |
