In order to understand language acquisition processes in foreign language classrooms, empirical research is nessessary. Data need to be gathered, analyzed, and discussed, based on qualitative studies such as classroom observations or expert interviews, quantitative studies using tests and experiments in the classroom, or mixed methods studies of both approaches. Emperical research may help identify factors that influence language learning and may advance our ideas of foreign language teaching.
This course will cover second language research methododoly with a specific focus on language classroom research.
In addition to discussing existing studies, you will conduct your own small research projects. The class is designed to help you get prepared for your own empirical studies for your bachelor and master theses.
