This class will be taught in a digital format. At this stage it is unclear whether it will be possible to return to a format of classroom presence during the semester.

This course will be taught online using Zoom. In order to participate you will need an internet connnection with a working microphone AND camera. There will be an input session each week so you will need to be available on the day and at the time you have enrolled for.

 The main focus of this course is on the development of creative writing skills for both personal enrichment and future implementation in the classroom.

The primary goals of the course are to have students complete a number of creative writing texts, concluding with a finished draft of a short story. In order to broaden your knowledge of creative texts you will be required to read and discuss a number of theoretical essays as well as short stories by renowned authors.

An additional goal is for students will be to work cooperatively in small groups to research and report on aspects of the writing course on a learnweb blog in order to bring greater textual understanding for the entire course. A final goal is to have students apply an informed critical perspective in order to aid their fellow students with the development of their own writing submissions.

Requirements: All students will need to contribute to open forum discussions and work cooperatively in groups. Students will be asked to complete certain online writing assignments as well as completing a poem and short story as part of the graded submission. Students will also write a short personal reflection at the end of the course summarizing their writing and editing rational.
