William Blake wrote simple sounding poetry reminding one of children's rhymes. The underlying motives are religious and portray an interesting world view. Blake was of the opinion that he was able to communicate with the dead, saw angels in trees and made beautiful engravings depicting his poems. Mary Shelley is an equally interesting character. She wrote the well known novel Frankenstein. Her life and her most famous work will be given special attention. Finally, America also produced famous romantic writers the best known of whom is probably Edgar Allan Poe. His life and selected works will be the third focus of this seminar. |
