This seminar is a "Special Edition" of the class Negotiating Across Cultures (Module S3-1), an international, intercultural, and multilingual seminar for IIM students (and all variants). It is 'special' in the sense that it will take place almost entirely in Social Virtual Reality -- a unique and innovative approach to university teaching.
The class will consist of approx. 10 students from Hildesheim and the same amount of students from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, a university with which we have a long-standing partnership.
Students accepted into this class will receive a Virtual Reality headset to take home for the period of the seminar, to be used to participate in the seminar online. They will experience 3D immersion in extraordinary virtual spaces and environments. On Social Virtual Reality platforms, they will meet and interact with their peers and their lecturers. They will acquire knowledge about and test their competencies in intercultural communication, and discuss issues in language and culture.
The team of lecturers will consist of Dr. Karsten Senkbeil and Joanna Sell from Hildesheim, plus two lecturers from Trinity College Dublin, who will meet us online.
The language of instruction will be English.
Please note that participation in this Special / Virtual Reality Edition is limited. There are two parallel instances of the same module (NaC, Module S3-1) in the winter semester 23/24; we suggest you apply to (at least) one of these parallel classes as well, as a 'plan B' if you do not receive a spot in this class.
This seminar is made possible by special funding from the Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur (MWK) Niedersachsen as part of the programme "Innovative Lehr- und Lernkonzepte: Innovation Plus" 2023-24. |
