Comparative Politics in a Globalized World
Comparison is one of the core tools of the researcher. By comparing and contrasting different cases, we gain insights into the causes and effects of different aspects of politics. While popular saying warns us to be comparing “apples and oranges”, in politics there are very different things we can compare like political regimes such as democracies and authoritarian regimes, the process of democratization or democratic backsliding, political cultures, democratic practices and the different outcomes of politics: We can ask, for instance, how and why social policies differ between states. |
