Second Language Acquisition:
Understanding the principles of second language acquisition (SLA) is one of the major prerequisites for teachers in foreign language classrooms. Teachers need to be able to understand basic principles of developmental sequences in SLA, the importance of the age factor and its impact on the acquisition of second language sounds and grammatical structures, and on learning strategies in the classroom. This class will introduce basic principles and theories of SLA with a special focus on the discussion of critical or sensitive periods in SLA, and will explore their relevance for the foreign language classroom.
PLEASE NOTE: The guest lecture on Dec. 6 is a mandatory session for both groups. The date might be subject to change, so please check for updates regularly, and save the date!
