This lecture explores selected historic events and figures which have shaped the nation and subsequently influence contemporary US American culture. We shall progress through the decades chronologically, conscious to examine not only cultural developments and customs, but also their evolution as a reflection of the evolving political, social, economic, and cultural world view of the times.
As it pertains to North American culture and will be explored in subsequent seminars, the Caribbean shall also be discussed during the latter half of the semester.
The lecture series shall be continued in the winter semester with lectures on Canada and the Caribbean.
