Remote sensing and GIS have become essential tools for environmental protection and sustainable resources use at both, local and global scale. Over the last decades, the availability of remote sensing data has increased exponentially. This leaves us with the challenge of processing and managing big amounts of data to put the information collected by satellites into action. For this, process-automation with programming languages and reproducible research are key elements. In this course we will make use of R as our toolbox to learn about basic spatial data processing. Finally, we will cover more advanced applications, including machine learning and model validation.
