Sound is one of the most potent and imaginative ways of knowing, understanding, and acting in the world that we live in. This course has two goals. First, to introduce students to how sound has and can be used as methodological tool within the social and cultural sciences. Secondly, to equip students with practical tools for sonic ethnography, and field recordings of sound and music. Designed to be taught in blocks of intense learning, and periods of creative work in between the block, the course instructor will bring his own experiences and insights from working across sound, anthropology, and the music industry, to start students on their own journey to form a serious relationship with sound, and the imaginative possibilities it offers in engaging with the world. |
