Course Objectives:
- Provide an in-depth understanding of ecosystem services, including their classification, conditions, and assessment methodologies.
- Introduce analyzing and assessing ecosystem services through matrix-based approaches and GIS tools.
- Explore the role and significance of ecosystem services within agroforestry systems.
- Integrate current knowledge into future landscape management scenarios within a multifunctional context.
Requirement:
- Basic knowledge of ArcGIS software.
- Participate in all 4 lectures including 3 seminars and 1 excursion day
Module Structure:
- Seminars: Focused sessions on ecosystem services, mapping methodologies, and agroforestry systems.
- Field trip: A one-time practical of ecosystem services exploration in an agroforestry landscape.
Course Schedule:
1. Introductory sessions:
- Overview of ecosystem services, mapping techniques, and agroforestry system concepts.
- Formation of student groups to define research objectives related to a specific landscape.
2. Focused group work:
- Conduct data collection and analysis in the field using GIS tools to map ecosystem services, integrate findings, and develop sustainable land-use strategies.
3. Fieldwork and guided problem-solving:
- Going on an excursion day for data collecting
- Ongoing progress review sessions to address challenges and refine group work with instructor support.
4. Final Presentation Preparation:
- Presentation of research findings and recommendations for ecosystem services and agroforestry system improvements.
Final evaluation/ assessment:
- Evaluation will be based on a group presentation, showcasing research outcomes and proposed solutions for enhancing ecosystem services in the targeted landscape.
