Analysts, commentators, pundits all seem to agree that the United States is at some sort of crossroads and that the future of America does not seem "bright," to say the least.
As an historian of the Unites States myself (see mini-bio above), it is just possible (hopefully) that "time" will tell a somewhat different story. After all, "we" have been at equally/more serious
junctures several times in the past (Civil War anyone?), but clearly the U.S. is faced with a host of both new and old/long-delayed problems that will seriously test whether
in fact "a nation so conceived can long endure" (to crib from Abraham Lincoln).
In line with the above, this class will explore several of the major "themes" of the United States "experiment" - past, present and potential future(s).
