The seminar focuses on the role of culture, media and diversity in situations of conflict. The students will introduced to the political situation in the north east Nigeria as well as the development, structure and functions of the Nigerian media. They will discuss the possibilities of the use of the media to counter violent extremism with different examples from the film and video industry among others. Furthermore the role of civil society and politics and international organisations will be examined. The seminar is based on theories of mass communication and and conflict communication as well as practice examples from Nigeria.
