Abstract

The endeavor of this bibliographical guide is inscribed in the broader effort to reframe the discipline of Philosophy in a global perspective through the account of its history. With the present work readers will gain a broad overview of the materials available in Italian on the histories of philosophy in different regions of the world from the first editions, in the 15th century, to the present. Some of these materials are presented in the extensive introduction to the bibliography, which has been organized according to geographical regions, such as continents and nations, as well as thematic focuses, such as religions, doctrines, or disciplines. Moreover, the introduction discusses two main themes, namely the strong historiographical tradition in Italy and its close connection with political agendas, and the influence of the history of philosophy in the schools. One outcome of the work is the mapping of leading research areas as well as neglected areas, and even the uncovering of some blind spots.

Francesca Greco was a research member of the DFG Koselleck-Project “Histories of Philosophy in Global Perspective” (2019-2024) and she is currently a PhD student at the University of Hildesheim in the field of intercultural philosophy. Her main interests are negativity (such as negation and nothingness), relationality, and the history of philosophy in global perspective. She co-edited the 14/2 issue of trópos. Rivista di ermeneutica e critica filosofica “La filosofia e l'universale. Un approccio interculturale (Parte prima e seconda) / Philosophy and the Universal. An Intercultural Issue. (Part one and two)” (2022, with Emma Lavinia Bon) and the 10th volume of “Frontiers of Japanese Philosophy” Transitions. Crossing boundaries in Japanese Philosophy (2021, with Leon Krings and Yukiko Kuwayama). Her last publications include “Absolute Self-Contradictory Human Existence: Nishida in Davos” (2024, Kyoto in Davos. Intercultural Readings of the Cassirer-Heidegger Debate), “Radical Relationality. A Philosophical Approach to Mindfulness Inspired by Nishida Kitaro” (2023, The Routledge Handbook of Phenomenology of Mindfulness), and “Die Begegnung mit den eigenen Schatten: Polylogisches Philosophieren in globaler Perspektive zur Zeit der Dekolonisierung” (2023, Polylog als Aufklärung? Interkulturell-philosophische Impulse).
