Moving Europe empowers museums, school teachers, and young people to explore and negotiate legacies of migration by directly involving members of migrant communities. Herein, museums will offer the space to research, reflect on, and publicly present histories of people who experienced migration. Unpacking different experiences and historical legacies of migration, especially those rooted in European colonial history, will help us better understand its impact and consequences on various groups in society. Moving Europe aims to increase awareness about the complexities of migration and invites the general public to address stereotypes, prejudices, myths and misconceptions about migrants. Museums that work on migration will partner up with school history teachers and invite their students to participate in local and international youth activities where students will lead research projects on histories and experiences of migration. Applying a tested methodology based on place-based learning to promote youth agency, museums will form the center of students' learning experience. At the same time, Moving Europe also aims to use this experience to explore how partnerships between schools and museums can be strengthened to create more impact for young people, members of migrant communities and the general public. Resarch on culural participation and transnational memory practises evolving in the project will be carried out by the University of Hildesheim.
The Consortium is formed by EuroClio, University of Hildesheim/Migration Lab, Young Islam Conference, National Museum of Italian Emigration, Museum of Emigration Gdynia, Migration Museum Denmark, National History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Multicultural Center Stockholm.
