Studienleistung: Group work during the workshop

Lerninhalte

The workshop will introduce the students to the concepts of international cultural management and international collaboration in the fields of arts and culture. The workshop will touch upon basic principles of international cultural management and will draw on experiences from case studies to allow an understanding of different arenas where international cultural management is exercised.
On a first stage, students will be introduced to current debates on the cycle of creation, production, distribution, promotion, reception and influence of arts and culture on the global level based on (Smiers, 2003). European cultural policies will also be tackled as a reference point for the intensification of international cultural relations and management settings.
On a second stage, by exploring different examples of international cultural cooperation, students will become acquainted with developments in the international cultural management sphere and will explore diverse managerial challenges when working for the cultural sector on the international level.
The workshop content is a combination of theory, case studies and practical exercises. The workshop will create a space for reflection and exploration of cultural management in a global context.
At the end of the workshop, students will have acquired some understanding on how to manage international cooperation projects, what it takes to work in the international cultural management arena and a self-reflection on skills for successful international cultural managers.

• Managing a European cultural project
• the TANDEM experience
• European cultural networks
• Co-productions and touring
Case studies: The Bridge Project (Old Vic Theater and Brooklyn Academy of Musicj)& Dos Orillas (Teatro Español and partner institutions in Latin America)
• Large scale events as arenas of international cultural management
Case studies: EXPOs and European Capital of Culture
• Leadership in international cultural management
