European Union: History, Institution and Politics (EUHIP) is a course which aims at dwellinginto the historical events, as well as the mechanism,which shaped today’s European Union. In thisprospect, the course will also provide a theoretical analysis of European Union’s (EU) politics andinstitutions.The aim of the EUHIP course is to offer prospective student useful knowledge for better analyzingthe current situation and the background of EU socio-political realm. Furthermore, they should beable to grasp the role and weight that individual member-states have in the decision-makingmechanisms within the organization. Since the course addresses international students coming fromexchange programs, we will also provide furthermore information on the political, economical andsocial system in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), and the role it plays within the EU.Lastly, the course will also explore the role of EU as a global player, as well as the challenges that itfaces due to internal and external factors.
The course aims at covering three major aspects:
1. an expanded historical background on the formation of the EU.
2. an overview of EU’s institutions and the role they currently play.
3. knowledge about the political environment of the EU and its member states. |
