Who is mobile (and who not)? Why are young adults mobile within Europe? Why and how are particularly young people mobile? The seminar will explore the phenomenon of youth mobility (in Europe), by discussing and combining the two strands of studies: a) research on young adulthood and b) mobilities. In doing so it will discuss meanings of various forms of mobility for young adulthood: short-termin and long-term stays, voyages related to finding employment and avoiding unemployment, moves between different countries. Amongst other questions it will explore the salience of identification and belonging in transnational movements, the significance of familiy and peer networks in movements and the impact of broader factors upon mobility patterns, including regional and national economic performance. Additionally, we will discuss implications of national and (European) (youth) mobility policies. The seminar will be focused in discussing theoretical an empirical research on youth and mobility.
The language of the seminar will be both, Englisch and German. At the beginning of the seminar we will jointly agree how the mixture of English and German contributions can be well prepared and (interactively) practiced. Students not completely familiar with Englisch/German are invited to join the seminar. |
